My reply to "gay super hero" who says "he speaks as a non-nationalist, non-religious gay greek man living in Greece."

Well, that's okay then. Completely unbiased. Yeah.

I can't speak for Sotos. I haven't lived the hardship he suffered. However, he didn't say Turkey he said ISTANBUL. And if you ever journey outside of your shell and visit the world you'll realise that Turkey is a VERY large country.

Areas such as Istanbul and Izmir and the Agean region are tolerant. I've actually been there. Journeying from one end of the country to the other is like travelling through different worlds.

"In Turkey, where the army is universally venerated and politically all-powerful" I quoth the super gay hero.

Here's what I say: I would argue it needs to be - and isn't USA's and Israel's army venerated in the same way? I'm proud of Israel's army - it needs a good one - so does Turkey to protect secularism. Do you want an Islamic state like Iran on your doorstep?

"There is a huge personality cult of Kemal Ataturk" he says again. Well he is respected as are all the Presidents of America and the founder fathers. And as a founder of the Republic no surprise there.

"honor killings of women and police torture are everyday incidents"

oh really? Please give me links where they are everyday occurences - what exaggeration - now look who is going overboard - and these are mostly occuring in the south-east - Kurds against Kurds mainly

"conferences are cancelled because nationalists don't agree with their subject matter"

no - nationalists like in Greece have the right of protest - if you mean the Armenian debate it still went ahead

"writers put on trial because of the views expressed in their books"

Nothing was expressed in a book - it was in an interview - shows how much you've read - and then they promptly let off again - none has been put on trial or jailed. At the initial hearing everyone was let off.

" ethnic persecution of the Kurds is considered a national obligation..."

sigh - this one speaks for itself really - Turkey has had a Kurdish Prime Minister, it has many Kurdish singers and other talents who have become rich and famous - this last remark is foolish and of course so unbiased - how many minority members have had it so good in Greece?

"the list goes on and on"

oh of course it does - and this in what way proves that everything I've said has been wrong? When should people hide Greece's faults by crying look they are worse over there? You accuse me of this - you are the one that's doing it.

"This of course has nothing to do with vilifying the Turkish people" says super gay hero: oh of course not say I they just have made Kurd-baiting a daily pasttime if you believe super gay hero.

The rest of what you say completely contradicts what you said before. So - I don't need to say anymore. Res ipsa loquitur - seeing as you're so fond of Latin.

This is how fucked up Greece is.

It is possible for an Armenian to win a Big Brother contest in Turkey (as happened in 2002), but you get two Turkish contestants in a Greek Fame Story and what is the buzz? Complaints from all quarters that these two infidels are usurping places that could have been taken by two Greeks.

Go blow it somewhere else. We know what is what.

Hey "matthew" I see your english-sounding nickname doesn't direct me anymore to to a turkish-german website. It is good you finally took care of that. Next time you want to comment on my blog, please do so on the subjects raised herein. To stalk me here and carry on with debates raised in another blog is nothing less than web harassment. It would also be helpful if you had some sense to realise when enough is enough.

When you respond I have a right to reply. It has nothing to do with stalking - Aman Yala will not post my comments for obvious reasons.

I wanted you to know there is a response to your post and brought it to your attention.

Enough will be enough when you get over your racial prejudices. You can't even stomach a web link to a TURKISH artist. TARKAN. Make you sick to your stomach to have his name on your blog?

Isn't that your conditioning and brainwashing kicking in?

And you are non-nationalistic and objective? Yeah sure.

Plus my "English sounding nickname" as you put it is my real name. I am a German Jew, my real name is Matthew Weber.

I don't need titles like super sexy gay man.

I just happen to be a big fan of Tarkan. Not so much a big fan of bigotry.

Plus it's obvious you haven't read all my responses with one iota of attention at Aman Yala otherwise you'd know that.

Oh and why am I writing in this way - to show you how to write correct English by using PARAGRAPHS.

You are quick to criticse MY English in my responses to AY, but can't even write correctly yourself.

This is your attitude in a nutshell.

You can't bear to be reminded that Turks are talented artistically and that they have any kind of culture or race that spans thousands of years - as the Royal Academy of Arts contested to with their successful 2005 exhibition in London.

It goes against everything you've been conditioned to believeİ in that Turks are barbarians/that they don't even exist/or have a varied history as the Ancient Greeks. Sumerians had a more varied and civilised culture than the Ancient Greeks - where are they discussed today?

Every time you sweat and you feel uncomfortable when postive things are mentioned about Turkey and her successes then go re-evaluate yourself and your beliefs.

Because that's your conditioning kicking in.

gay super hero είπε...

Don't you have anything better to do? Are you on some kind of mission to bore to death everyone suspected of "anti-turkish" bias? Or is it your job to survey web content and intimidate dissenters by deluging them with spam? Excuse me for not knowing Tarkan, see I don't follow turkish music, or greek for that matter. And it is true that turkish people can be very talented, it is just sad that they live in a country that is not free enough to let them fully express their talents. They have a very rich culture that I respect (for example I am a big fan of Ottoman architecture which goes against everything you're conditioned to believe against the greeks). Your never-ending tirades is just a big proof of how freedom of opinion upsets rabid nationalists in Turkey and everywhere in the world.

When someone can't argue they try to belittle. You only belittle yourself.

"And it is true that turkish people can be very talented, it is just sad that they live in a country that is not free enough to let them fully express their talents." You say.. what is that statement based on?

Orhan Pamuk still sells books writes whatever he wants, books with lesbian themes and homosexual themes are so too - they have gay characters on TV, and openly gay actors.

Kurds are successful in the industry as are Greeks and Armenians - how are they not free exactly?

You have your freedom of opinion - I have my freedom to respond and show your comments to be teh garvage they come out from - your mind.

gay super hero είπε...

Man I don't know what to do about you - you make me laugh, you live in a parallel universe.

I quote from yesterday's Guardian:
"A prize-winning novelist goes on trial tomorrow accused of belittling Turkishness in the latest and strangest of a string of cases spotlighting the country's stuttering reform process"
"Elif Shafak's The Bastard of Istanbul has been at the top of Turkish bestseller lists since its publication in March, winning critical praise for its portrait of the friendship between two girls, an Armenian-American and a Turk."
"But its treatment of the mass murder of Ottoman Armenians in 1915 has attracted the attention of Kemal Kerincsiz, the nationalist lawyer behind last December's trial of Orhan Pamuk, Turkey's best-known author."

You can read all about the latest freedom of expression trial in Turkey at
http://books.guardian.co.uk/news/articles/0,,1876895,00.html

Another quote from stophonourkillings.com:

"Istanbul, 25 August (AKI) - Turkish police this week released a report containing some grim facts regarding an age-old Turkish 'tradition'. Over the last five years 1,091 people - 710 of them women - have been murdered in Turkey in what are known as 'honour killings'."
Read all about it at http://stophonourkillings.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=403

Or you can read about the honour killings of Turks living in Germany at http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/0,1518,344374,00.html

Or you can check out Turkey's rating at the "Freedom in the World survey 2006" at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_in_the_World_2006

And so on and so forth. All that just from a quick look through the internet.

Yes and I know all about the gay characters on Turkish tv; don't forget we get these shows here as well. They are all dreadful effeminate carricatures. I also know about the succesful greek industrialists of Istanbul: they all live in Greece now since they couldn't handle all that "freedom".

Let me quote back from my universe:

Top Novelist ACQUITTED in Turkey
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan also welcomed the verdict and signalled that the government would consider amending Article 301 of Turkey's penal code.

Take note of how Turkey is dealing with honour killings,

BBC News Online

I wouldn't quote Wikipedia if I were you -we all know the credibility of that site over the past few debacles that have occurred. It has been hijacked by Greeks who have nothing better to do then spew out unsubtantiated rubbish.

and as for "succesful greek industrialists of Istanbul: they all live in Greece now since they couldn't handle all that "freedom" - yeah WE know why they really left. They're not leaving now - they left when Makarios said in Cyprus that he would make sure (slowly) that not one Turkish Cypriot was left alive in Cyprus.

Tit for tat. I for one am glad they are not there. It is like having Arabs working against the state of Israel and letting them flourish off the economy. If people have no respect for a country's borders or sovereignty EVEN AFTER ALL THESE YEARS - then keep out.

Making a quick search of polictical corruption and religous freedom and tolerance in GREECE doesn't make for nice reading.

You say: "Yes and I know all about the gay characters on Turkish tv; don't forget we get these shows here as well. They are all dreadful effeminate carricatures."

WRONG again. Watch some Turkish TV. The latest one "Bir Istanbul Masali" An Istanbul Tale had a normal man without no trait whatsoever CEO of a large company and best friend and confidante to the family that owned the company with a stable love life.

Plus, not only is one movie in the works, but the lesbian tale "2 Girls" made into a film by Kutluğ Ataman did really well in Turkey. And there are more movies in the works.

GET EDUCATED AND UPDATED.

The freedom in the world survey is published by Freedom House, an american organisation and only quoted by wikipedia. Ms Shafak's acquittal was met with riots by right-wingers outside the courtroom and she says her life is being threatened. And corruption is not the same as oppression.

Ok, this is the last warning: Next time you are going to post something irrelevant to the contents of this site (which is gay rights around the world and not all this greco-turkish shit) I am going to have to enable the comment moderator. Genug ist genug.
